Get to Know Dr. Abdelrahman Salem
Dr. Salem is our in-house, Board-Certified Orthodontist with over 15 years of experience. He has been working alongside Dr. Dulli since 2017 and is happy to continue collaborating with a skilled pediatric dentist to help improve the oral health and function of developing smiles. The best part of being an orthodontist for him is creating beautiful smiles and seeing the impact that quality orthodontic treatment can have on his patients’ confidence. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Salem’s passion for dentistry was sparked by his uncle, a dentist whose commitment to his patients and community deeply impressed Dr. Salem when he was younger. He was inspired to pursue the same path of service after witnessing the respect he earned and the positive impact he had on his patients, many of whom were family.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Salem has attended the University of Jordan as well as the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where he completed his orthodontic residency and earned a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Science in Oral Sciences. Dr. Salem is also a board-certified orthodontist, which is a distinction held by an estimated one in three orthodontists. This involved him completing a rigorous testing and peer review process through the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).
In addition to Dr. Salem’s clinical experience and extensive training, he is also actively involved in research. He is a lead author of the December 2015 publication, “Implementation of ultra-low-dose- CBCT for routine 2D orthodontic diagnostic radiographs: Cephalometric landmark identification and image quality assessment,” which appeared in Seminars in Orthodontics.
Dr. Salem also remains an active member of the American Academy of Orthodontists and The American Board of Orthodontists.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
From Chicago, Dr. Salem is a proud father of four and husband. He enjoys making the most of his kids’ early years by spending plenty of time outdoors and staying active as a family. From a young age, Dr. Salem has also had a passion for art and drawing, which has also served as a surprising foundation to his work as an orthodontist, where he’s able to blend his artistic eye for symmetry with the science of dentistry to create beautiful, healthy smiles.
Whenever Dr. Salem isn’t at the office, he enjoys traveling to new cities and discovering local hiking and biking trails with his wife. He also has a passion for exploring new flavors and cultures through trying different foods. To unwind, he often turns to a good book. Beyond these interests, Dr. Salem loves spending time with his family and friends, as their company is what truly enriches his life.
