Toddler Teeth Development

It’s important to keep in mind that every child’s oral development may vary, but typically, teeth will begin erupting by the time your child turns six months old. One by one, their teeth will grow in, with most of their visible ones growing in by their second birthday. During this time, they’ll also begin to eat solid foods, and you may notice that they become fussy, or that their gums become irritated due to teething. During this time, our team can provide initial exams and cleanings to alleviate discomfort and help prevent cavities and baby bottle tooth decay. At that time, we can also diagnose and treat lip or tongue-ties.
What is Teething?

Teething is dreaded for parents and children alike, but rest-assured, it doesn’t last forever! Your child can start teething as early as three months old, and it’ll likely carry on until around two years-old. During that time, gum inflammation can cause irritability, excessive drooling, and other disruptions to you and your child’s daily life. You may find that they want to chew on items to relieve their discomfort as well. Our team can offer you helpful advice on how to safely and effectively ease their pain.
How to Clean Your Toddler’s Teeth and Gums

Once your baby gets their first tooth, begin brushing their teeth and gums with a wet washcloth or a small, infant-sized toothbrush with or without toothpaste twice a day. Between the ages of three to six years old, you may begin using a pea-sized amount of children’s fluoride toothpaste to clean their teeth. You may also start flossing between their teeth with kid’s dental flossers and schedule their professional dental checkups and cleanings with our team every six months.
