A frenectomy<\/a> is a simple procedure that releases a tight or restrictive frenulum, the small band of tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth (lingual frenulum) or the lip to the gums (labial frenulum). When this tissue is too tight, it can interfere with normal oral function. While not every child needs a frenectomy, certain signs may indicate that treatment could be beneficial. Here are 5 signs your child may need a frenectomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

1. Difficulty Breastfeeding or Bottle Feeding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the earliest signs of a restrictive frenulum, often called a tongue-tie or lip-tie, is trouble feeding. Infants may struggle to latch properly, tire quickly while feeding, or make clicking noises. Poor latch can lead to inadequate milk transfer, slow weight gain, and frustration for both baby and parent.
